Anatomy of a Medical Society - Fundamentals for Association Professionals is an immersive program that aims to help those who are still uncovering the mysteries of medical society management, preparing participants for the unique aspects of organized medicine while providing them with a network to support them throughout their careers.

Provide an introduction/foundation about: o what makes medical associations unique o the core functions of a medical society, and o rewards and opportunities that a career in medical society management provide |
Membership

To provide a basic understanding of membership models, recruitment and retention strategies, member benefits and value and what makes physician organizations unique. |
Advocacy |
To provide an introduction to the role of advocacy in advancing the strategic priorities of a medical society and its members, and to provide an overview of specific advocacy strategies and techniques for effectively engaging members |
Education |
To provide an overview of continuing medical education including the requirements for accreditation, successful leadership education and principles of adult learning. A high level discussion of providing continuing medical education, both accredited and non-accredited as a member benefit will also be shared. |
Finance |
To provide a basic understanding of fiscal roles and responsibilities and how they relate to the health of an association |
Governance |
To provide an overview of medical association governance, common governance bodies and processes, how governance connects ideas to action, ethics and compliance. |
Marketing |
To recognize key marketing concepts, including communications, branding, PR/media relations, member segmentation and value proposition development. |
Anatomy of a Medical Society – Fundamentals for Association Professionals is geared toward medical society professionals that have three years or less experience in the medical society world. The goal of the program is to help prepare you for the unique aspects of organized medicine and continue building a network of colleagues which will serve you throughout your career. AAMSE Fundamentals will also provide you with an opportunity to develop the knowledge and tools you need, not only for the advancement of your organization, but for the advancement of your career.
Topics covered include an overview of the current health care system, top issues facing physicians and medical societies, how to manage when you aren’t in charge, communication strategies and social media, the growing importance of non-dues revenue, and the politics of health care. With the hybrid format of the program (including webinars, readings and discussions) it is easier than ever to learn the essential information you need.
As an experienced medical society executive, consider the benefits of sending your staff to a program where they will learn how to build a strong peer network, how the healthcare system works, tips for working with physician leaders and finance tools. The knowledge they will gain from their experience with AAMSE Fundamentals and the materials they bring back to the office will be critical not only to their position, but also to the success of your organization.
Anatomy of a Medical Society – Fundamentals for Association Professionals is training specific to medical society management, and geared toward your staff who have three years or less experience in medical society management.
All AAMSE sessions on association/society management are eligible for CAE credit. You may earn one credit hour towards CAE certification or recertification, for each full clock hour, up to a maximum of 6 hours for each full-day program. Please note, however, that sessions specific to AAMSE procedures and/or medical topics would not earn credit, and all credits are subject to the determination of the CAE program. Note: This program is not endorsed, accredited, or affiliated with ASAE or the CAE program. Applicants may use any program that meets eligibility requirements in the specific time frame towards the exam application or renewal. There are no specific individual courses required as part of the applications – selection of eligible education is up to the applicant based on his/her needs.
Kelsey McQuaid-Craig joined California ACEP in 2012 after working on the boards of local and statewide political organizations. Kelsey served as an intern to Congressman Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) in his Yolo County district office. Prior to becoming the Director of Policy and Programs, she worked as Program Associate and Government Affairs Associate for California ACEP, maintaining the California ACEP website and social media pages, analyzing healthcare legislation, and organizing California ACEP’s annual Legislative Leadership Conference. Kelsey is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and the American Association of Medical Society Executives. She is a past Chair of the CalSAE Legislative Committee. She was the Co-Chair of the AAMSE 360 Program and a member of the AAMSE Leadership Committee, Trends Task Force, and 2020 and 2021 Annual Conference Planning Committee. She is the Immediate Past President of the USC Alumni Club of Sacramento. She is a Certified Association Executive through ASAE and participated in the NextGen Association Summit in 2021. She earned her B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Davis and her M.P.A. from the University of Southern California. In her "spare" time she enjoys photography, spending time with her husband and two dogs, and rooting on the 2020 World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
Caitlin Couture, CAE currently serves as the Director of Governance and Engagement at the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and has twelve years of association management experience. In her role at SIR, Caitlin in responsible for ensuring consistency across 64 committees, task forces and manages five sections. She works to ensure members positively engage with SIR throughout their career through traditional committee engagement and ad hoc volunteer opportunities. In her time at SIR, Caitlin launched SIR Connect and engaged 85% of SIR members in online collaboration.
In 2013, Caitlin earned the designation of Certified Association Executive (CAE). Currently, Caitlin serves as a member of the AAMSE Leadership Academy Subcommittee. In the past, she has presented at ASAE and AAMSE, served on the ASAE Young Professionals Committee and ASAE Communication Section Council. Caitlin is also a graduate of the ASAE 2012 Leadership Academy.
Bryan Campbell, FAAMSE, is the Former Chief Executive Officer of the Colorado Medical Society (CMS), the largest organization of physicians in Colorado, with over 7,500 members across all specialties and employment settings.
Before taking his position at CMS in January of 2020, Bryan served as CEO of the Duval County Medical Society (DCMS) in Jacksonville, Florida. In his time at DCMS, Bryan was recognized as one of Jacksonville’s 40 Under 40 and 40 Most Influential People in Healthcare. He was also named the Chairman of the Jacksonville Mayor’s Council for Fitness and Wellness for consecutive terms.
Bryan is currently the President of the American Association of Medical Society Executives (AAMSE) and earned their “Fellow” designation (FAAMSE) in 2018.
A Nebraska native and graduate of the University of Nebraska – Omaha (UNO), Bryan spent 14 years as a broadcast television executive, working at television stations from Oregon to Florida. He was the senior producer for more than 200 hours of live television around Super Bowl 39 in Jacksonville in 2005 before making the move into organized medicine in 2006.
