Come learn in this two-part session why and how medical societies need to make the battle against physician burnout a top priority and how to apply some of the same principles in your own life and work.
The Carolinas HealthCare System Physician Leadership Mentoring Program identifies current and aspiring physician leaders and partners them with established senior physician leaders to enhance and cultivate the skills needed for an increasingly dynamic healthcare environment. As physicians are embracing further expanded roles in leadership, the outcomes from this program illustrate the benefits of participating in a mentoring relationship. It provides a unique opportunity for growth and development and a strategy to retain and cultivate quality physician leaders.
Communication skills are vital to success as a leader and are potentially the biggest stumbling block one will encounter. This interactive workshop is focused on helping participants to improve their ability to communicate in key areas essential to their effectiveness. More specifically, this workshop will provide tools for listening effectively, outline common styles of communication, and give participants necessary insights to acknowledge and manage emotions during conflict and confrontation. Participants will have the opportunity to role play to reinforce the concepts.
To master the art of leadership then is to work at becoming a master of how human energy systems and exchange work, and thus, how to shape, align, and focus them on change. Our human systems appear to operate within a set of universal laws, the same universal laws that appear to govern energy exchange throughout the universe. Our systems vacillate and transform from chaos to order, and order to chaos, leaving change in their wake. Why? This session will be a fun and engaging journey exploring several key universal laws and their application to human system dynamics and leadership

This session will enable participants to understand how to leverage emotions rather than suppress or avoid them. In research from Stanford, Cal Berkeley and University of Texas at Austin, it has been shown business negotiations fail or fall short of an ideal outcome when one or more parties is suppressing their emotions. By understanding the emotional underpinnings of your behavior, business people are better able to cooperate and find common ground with direct reports, team members, bosses, vendors, colleagues and their spouses. Research suggests that emotional intelligence is responsible for nearly 60% of job performance.
